Regional Council Self-Serving On Light Rail Transit
It’s no surprise that the LRT is already looking like it’s going to go over budget. Now, transit users have to pay significant increases in fares to help cover the cost. Regional council and staff seem to forget that most transit users are low income earners. They’re already financially challenged. How are they supposed to deal with this ridiculous increase?
We know why….so that Kitchener and Waterloo can get their nice new shiny train set and downtown revitalization. Cambridge, of course, gets nothing but more buses. However, we still have to help pay for K-W’s new toy. Waterloo Councillor Sean Strickland says that transit users have to pay their fair share. Well, we, here in the second largest municipality in the Region are getting stuck with paying for something that we don’t get!
Oh, yes, they say that we’ll get trains in a later phase. When Pigs Fly we will!
As for the information and public input sessions being held…why bother? It’s all window dressing. Regional staff and council aren’t listening. They’re just going through the motions. They’ll go ahead what they’ve already decided to do, no matter what people tell them.
