New Clinic Gets Off To A Bad Start
A Toronto Doctor who has been working at a Franklin Boulevard medical clinic in Cambridge, made a court appearance today in connection with child pornography charges.
Kevin Speight, 39, was arrested at his Toronto on Thursday, but was released on bail following his court appearance.
He has been charged with possessing, accessing and making child pornography.
He was released on $20,000 bail under strict conditions. It is reported that his parents posted his bail.
Toronto Police said they do not believe any of the victims in the videos were known to Speight.
Investigators said that child pornography was found on computer equipment seized from Speight's downtown Toronto condo, but did not disclose how or why he became a suspect.
Speight has been working one day a week as a family physician at the recently opened Franklin Medical Centre in Cambridge as well as the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga.
The Cambridge clinic maintains that Speight was vetted in a similar manner as other employees, and that there was nothing in his file which caused suspicion.
Officers stated that the charges are not related to Speight's medical practice or his patients at the clinic.
According to a clinic spokesperson, Speight has been suspended, and removed from the practice and will not be returning.
Speight's patients in Cambridge have been assigned to two of the four remaining doctors at the clinic.
