Maxwell Shuts Out Former Team Mates

The Kitchener Rangers fell 3-0 to the Sarnia Sting at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Friday night. Former Rangers netminder Brandon Maxwell got the shut-out in his first game back at the Aud.

Sarnia struck first, on the power play. Anthony DeAngelo fired a high shot that beat Kitchener netminder John Gibson at 4:32 of the first period. The solo effort was the blueliner's second goal of the season.

Five minutes later, Sting forward Brett Ritchie would find the back of the net to make it 2-0.  Craig Hottot picked up an assist on Ritchie's third of the year.

Gibson was busy as Sarnia out-shot the Rangers 12-4 in the opening frame.

Sarnia continued to press in the second. Ryan Kujawinski found Nick Latta in front of the Kitchener net, and he lifted the puck over a sprawling Gibson to make it 3-0. RJ Malahak also assisted on the goal at 6:11.

Kitchener held a 14-12 advantage in shots on goal in the second period.

Shots on goal were 9 -8 in favour of the Rangers in a scoreless third period. Maxwell stopped all 32 shots he faced.

The Rangers' record is now 6-4-0-0 while the Sting are 9-2-0-1 in 2011-12.
