What Are The Odds of Getting Real Gamblers To Participate in this Study?

In Ontario, problem gamblers account for 60% of slot machine revenue, about $1.8 billion annually. In an effort to determine why slot machine gambling is the most addictive form of gambling in Ontario, The Gambling Research Team at the University of Waterloo has developed a simulator slot machine to mimic casino machines. This team uses a variety of techniques including questionnaires, interviews, psychophysical measures including heart rate, galvanic skin response (i.e. perspiration) while gamblers play in a the laboratory. Their work is supported by the Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre. Researchers from the University of Waterloo Gambling Research Lab are currently looking for frequent slot machine players to participate in a study on slot machine gambling. They are interested in how sound effects the player's gambling experience. Participant, will be asked to play a slot machine simulator while skin conductance levels (finger sweat) and heart rate are measured. Participants will also be asked some questions about your mood and gambling behaviour.


Participants will receive $15 plus up to $20 in additional winnings depending on your slot machine outcomes. The total time commitment will be approximately 1.5 hours.
