The Happy Prince - The Museum On Stage Presents Oscar Wilde TaleStudents Perform Operatic Adaptationby Angela OlanoMar 16, 2010
Kitchener, ON - The Museum is pleased to announce a live performance of the beloved Oscar Wilde story The Happy Prince, on Thursday March 18, 2010 at 7PM, performed by local students.
The operatic adaptation of The Happy Prince will be performed by the Waterloo Regional Student NATS Chapter (National Association of Teachers of Singing). The group is made up of local voice students and emerging artists breaking into the performing and teaching fields whose aim is to bring attention to the world of singing to children of all backgrounds.
From acclaimed writer Oscar Wilde, The Happy Prince is the tale of a Sparrow flying south for the winter, stopping to rest on the statue of a Prince only to find the statue crying at the sight of his people suffering. The winter is fast approaching, yet the sparrow, feeling empathy for the Prince, delays its own urgent voyage to try and help as best it can. This is a heartwarming tale of different living creatures learning about the fragility of human life.
“The Museum’s primary goal is to supply this community with fresh, cultural and relevant content and to be a stage for community talent and celebration. An opera performance based on a hundred and twenty year old play, accomplishes this goal,” said David Marskell, the Museum’s C.E.O. “What a wonderful opportunity to expose families to classic literature.”
Tickets for The Happy Prince are $8 for Museum Members, $10 for non-members and $35 for a family. Tickets can be purchased at The Museum in downtown Kitchener in advance or at the door, this Thursday evening at 7PM. All proceeds to support The Museum’s and Students NATS’ operations.
